Getting Your Kiddos to Eat Healthier

by Erica on July 22, 2015

I really love my show, Catch Good Health Radio!

On today’s show, Billie Walton came on to talk about children’s nutrition.  Billie is a nationally Certified Nutrition Specialist practitioner and a Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist in the State of Maryland.  We shared great nutritional info and Billie offered many tips and strategies for parents and care givers.

A couple of my favorites?

First- don’t assume your kids are going to dislike what you dislike.  Doing so limits what they’re exposed to and may cause them to become picky eaters.  Offers fruits and veggies that you don’t care for as well- you never know, your kids may love them.

Another tip?

It can take up to 14 exposures to a food for kids to eat it.  Keep showing kids healthier foods, keep eating them yourself, and keep offering them to your kids.  Be patient, and don’t let there become an argument around food.  Just keep offering it.

And finally- get your kids and teens engaged.  The more engaged they are in menu planning, selection, preparing, and cooking, the more likely they’ll eat what you offer.  Billie offered great ways to include them in the process, and to keep them engaged.

Listen to our show to learn the rest of Billie’s tips and strategies, including how to transition kids’ diets to healthier versions:

Billie will be back on the air with me on August 19th at 1pm EST to talk about nutrition related to weight loss.  If you’ve been trying to lose weight and haven’t been able to, we’ll explain why this often happens and how to lose weight in a healthy way.  It’s very different from what many of us have been told over the years!

And please don’t forget- good health is contagious…pass it on!
